ROOKIE - JOHN HOYES
John Hoyes is a 17 year old cross-country and track athlete from Brisbane. Beginning running whilst still at school, John has achieved State Team selection for cross-country and State and National selection for track and field in the 800m and 1500m events.
In his final school year in 2006, John won Bronze in the schoolboy cross-country Nationals and Gold Medals in track and field. On top of this, he won Bronze Medals in 2005 and 2006 at the Down Under International Games for track and field.
Now finished school, John is taking a year off studies to work in a Brisbane hospital and continue training for his running. He is also currently assisting with coaching and training of cross-country at his former school. Given only three years of genuine running experience, his versatility as a runner and with the added pressure of schooling no longer an issue, John hopes to continue to improve and expand his repute in additional track events such as the steeple chase and 3000m, as well as try his hand at triathlons.
